I am somewhat reluctant to bring this up, but since it does potentially
effect me, I'll speak up, even though I may be in the minority.....

I would like to suggest that if possible, we not allow our list to be
associated with a news server.  The reason I am proposing this is that there
are many individuals out there that use the news servers as sources for their
"spam" lists.  They simply look for the addresses of the person who posts a
message to the news server, and adds them to the list.  The next thing you
know, you are receiving unwanted mail.  Since I use my corporate email to
access the ADSM-L List, I don't particularly want it to start being swamped
with mail with a header of "Live Nudes" or some such junk associated with
mail coming through here.

Don't get me wrong - I am far from a prude - but it has happened to me
already with a posting that I made to the MVS IBM-MAIN list server, which is
sent to a news server.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

While I have the soapbox, I also want to say publicly that I appreciate the
work Martha puts into this list - she does a great job with little fanfare,
and has always been most helpful.  Thanks for a great job!

From your beleagured list owner....

I came in this morning, after a much needed day off yesterday, to find over
50 e-mail complaints in my mailbox.  These complaints were from users
of various news groups who had received a rejection note from ADSM-L after
posting to a group.  It appears that the culprit was a news server
at UIUC, which was subscribed to this list and was forwarding all postings to
us.  I don't know if this was an accident or the result of mischief. However,
if anyone on this list is responsible for this server, I would like an
explanation of what happened.

While the situation did not cause any problems to the list itself, it did
present a hardship for me.  Therefore, if you intend to gateway this list
into a news server, please let me know FIRST.  That way, I'll know who
to contact if there is a problem.  Otherwise, my only option is to immediately
remove the problem address from the list.
