There is no limit that I know of, and our AIX file systems definitely have
more than 18,500 files.

When I have had this happen, it was due to a real problem in the file
system.
If you can find out exactly where it is stopping, you may be able to find
the problem in the file system.

That isn't a very easy process.  One way to do it is to open the GUI, and
back up one directory at a time until you find where the problem is.

That will be a fairly slow and painful process, I realize, with 90000 files.

You might try subdividing the file system by using VIRTUALMOUNTPOINT to
accomplish the same thing.

(We are AIX server 2.1.5.13, client 2.1.5.6 on RS6000 J30 at AIX 4.2.)
