I'm not sure if this could fix your problem with the RS6000 platform... But
I had the same error message when using a Microsoft Back/Archive Client.
When I modified the options file (DSM.OPT) I saved it as WORDPAD 6.0. This
seemed to cause the error message. The fix occurred when I saved the
DSM.OPT file as aText Document. Good Luck!
