The management class is used for both Archive and Backup.  Your original MC
probably had a
Backup copygroup but no Archive copygroup and that is why your Archive failed.
When you
activated you new MC with the Archive copygroup and no Backup copygroup then
your Archive
started working but you Backup failed.  This is how it is suppose to work.

I think what you want is to define both copygroups in the same MC.  If you
don't want to do that then
you can use the ARCHMC option on the Archive command to override the assigned
management
class.
