This was subject of a vocal discussion when the V3 clients first came out - I
don't remember hearing anyone who was in favor of us. IBM development has
taken an APAR on this, and the change that they proposed was to have the
backup GUI display the first two levels of the hierarchy. I understand that
it will look something like this:

|_| My_machine
 |
 |-----|_| Network Drives
 |
 |-----|_| Local Drives
 |
 |-----|_| Removable Media

Hopefully you are viewing the above with a fixed font!

The order is probably wrong, and the phraseology is probably wrong also, but the
intent is that you will have three levels available - Network, local DASD
(Round, brown, and spinning) and mountable stuff like CD ROMs. Each level will
be preceded by a check box, which I attempted to portray with the |_|
characters. For the life of me, I can't remember whether the Local drive box
was to be checked as a default or not. AT any rate, checking the Local drives
box would be equal to setting domain=All local, and consistent to the V1 and V2
clients.

No delivery date was announced. It will not be in the Level 3 clients coming
soon.

Hope this clarifies the issue.

Using the ADSM Version 3, Release 1, Level 0.1 GUI interface, the
client assumes you will backup both the local filespaces and the
network filespaces. There appears to be no way to stop the client from
backing up the network filespaces without manually turning off the
network or turning on the local filespaces before you initiate the
backup. Since network data is backed up using another process, our
default should only backup local filespaces. It would appear that the
"domain" paramater would do this, but it has no effect on the GUI
client. It does appear to work for the DOS command line client.

The server is:
ADSM Server for VM - Version 2, Release 1, Level 0.13/0.13
