Hi,

We have a 3570-B12 (that's dual drive). One of the drives broke down
this week. It is not yet repaired and I have a problem with reclamation
processes that must be started (almost our of non-full volumes). So, I
tried to do it via the disk (ie, move data from_vol stg=some_disk_pool
and then, when over, start a migration process). Unfortunately, this
fails, as (almost) all volumes end with (and start with) files spanning
over 2 volumes (eg, volume 7 ends with 70 out of 75MB of one files, and the
rest - 5 MB, reside at the beginning of vol 8). So, after the move data,
I'm left with drives having > 99% reclaimable space, but I can of course
not utilize them. I assume that if I need to restore such a file, the
operation will fail too.

I have verified my assumption of "spanning files" with the Query Content
command, and am running a 2.1.5.15 server on an AIX 4.2.1 box. The drive
that is out of order has been removed (del drive lib_name drive_n).

Questions:

1. Is there any way to accomplish the space reclamation when I have
such spanning files (audit vol. fails similarly, BTW) and just
   one drive available ?

2. Is there any way to restore these files in that situation ?

If the answer to both question is no, then this is a design flaw, IMHO
(h/w does sometimes fail ...).

3. Is there a way to "tell" adsm (that's for the future, of course), not
to span files over >1 drive, without limiting the migration to just
one process (thus taking longer to migrate) ? If there is, please
   specify whether it's also a V.2 solution, or just a V.3 .

Regards,
/Zvika
