Perhaps the reason for multiple mounts during restore is because there are some
files that span two tapes.  It needs to mount the tape to get the second half
of the file,
but it will not necessarily start restoring all of the other files that are on
that volume  at
that time.

It sorts the files based on what volume the first part of the file resides.  It
doesn't take
into account spanned files in its sort.

Yes, V3 will help with your restart problem.  If you were using the
point-in-time restore
and your restore was interrupted.  When you use the RESTART RESTORE, the restore
will pick closely from where it left off and will not require all those volumes
to be remounted.
