Ciao Andrea,
we had similar problems in backing up the registry. The problems
disappeared after a reboot of the server.
I tried to reproduce the error, but it never reappeared.
Sounds like the tool that reads the registry into the file structure
below c:\adsm.sys\
was hanging and could not be restarted prior to the reboot.
So, if everything else failed, you can try a reboot.
