Here is how we do " Bare Metal Restores "

* The users " Data" only is backed up using ADSM , i.e. Documents no
executables. We have the DSM.OPT file include the " Corporate standard "

  data files only.

1) We have a standard " Gold Disk " Image of a workstation. We use Ghost
Professional to create the image.
2) We apply the image to the "new" hard drive.  The Gold Disk image also
has all standard applications including ADSM client.
3) All configurable programs are tweaked, i.e Netware client, Outlook
mail etc..
4) The ADSM nodename is configured
4) The restore is started

Total time of bare metal restore can range from 30 - 60 min depending on
the number of files to be restored.
