You have the answer in your last sentence - Incremental is a "Drive" process
it works against the whole drive, and, as you have found out, you cannot
specify a directory stream as part of the process. That is what a Selective
backup is - point ADSM at a point in the structure and let it go at it.

Do you have another reason why a selective backup is bad in your situation
that I am missing? It would seem to me that it should do what you want
(backup only Notes during the week, back up everything on the weekend.)

If time is a problem, you might want to look at the "Incremental by date"
option - it only backs up files with dates newer than the last backup - so it
will only get files that have been changed since the last backup. It does
not get files that have been "moved" to the server (those that might not have
been there before, but have original creation dates, and not "today's date"),
and it does not do the overhead associated with incremental processing
(checking for deleted files, purging, etc.). Incremental by date is good for
tight windows during the week; a regular incremental is recommended for the
weekend.

I have an AS/400 question. I know I know its rare but it happens.

Senario: Doing an incremental backup of Lotus notes on an FSIOP. I
don't want to back up the whole K drive, just the K:\NOTES\DATA
directory and all sub directories (files). Using the DSMC under the
SBMNWSCMD (SBMNWSCMD CMD('DSMC INCR K:\NOTES\DATA\*.* -PASSWORD=@@@@
-SUBDIR=YES') I get this error, ANS4071 Invalid domain entered. I have
tried several variations of the path statement and the only one that
tried several variations of the path statement and the only one that
works is when I just put K: and leave out the path statement. If I use
the same command but switch incr with selc I get a full backup of the
files I want. We want to only do incremental backups through the week.
Can you do this with DSMC K:??? INCR or does ADSM only allow incremental
backups to be performed on drives and not paths.

Thanks for any help,
