Trevor,
There is not a mechanism to do what you want; you can only remove whole
empty pages. So you can reduce the 1900 mb as you say, but there is no way
to tell ADSM that you want to consolidate the information there into fewer
pages. In general I understand that doing a DSMSERV DUMPDB and then a
DSMSERV LOADDB might even grow your database but as you have deleted so much
I would say it's worth a try. I would make sure that I had a BACKUP DB that
could be RESTOREd if the end result wasn't as small as needed. You would
need to get the DSSMSERV INSTALL sized with the number of dbvols you want.
For 8GB it might take a couple of hours to do the LOADDB - longer than the
DUMPDB (which needs to be done on a quiet system). Also, I think there is an
option on LOADDB to reduce the number of messages it puts out while in progess
(server option file STAtusmsgcnt xxx ... it's in the server README).
