Regarding Macintosh partition size -

This is a MacOS function. Since the MacOS is by default a real memory
system, the partiton size is the amount of real memory you want any
particular program to have. The ADSM backup and ADSM scheduler each need
enough memory for the executable, buffers, and a pleace to hold all the
info that the server sends at the start of an incremental. This last item
is variable; figure 110k for every 1,000 files in the active set on the
server.

To change the partition size, click ONCE on the backup or scheduler
program. Then under the FILE menu, select 'get info'. At the bottom of
the panel are boxes for setting the minimum and recommended memory size.
I suggest that you set them to the same number. Figure the size of the
executable, + 250k for buffers 'n stuff + (#_of_files / 1000 * 110).

An alternative you might look at setting 'slowincremental' to on in the
preferences. This causes the server info to be downloaded in pieces (by
folder actually), so you don't need a lot of memory, but it drives the
server crazy (very high cpu) because the 'get next folder' logic doesn't
use a cursor.

Hi all,

I'm trying to backup a large volume (located on a WinNT Server) with the
ADSM Macintosh Client, but I always get an error message that memory is
running low and that I should increase the partition size. But WHAT
partition size ?? Can somebody help me, I'm not a Mac specialist. Is
the partition size an Option in ADSM or in MacOS. The Readme-File of
ADSM say's that ADSM is shipped with a partition size of 1.3 MB but
there is no help how to increase it.
Thanks
