Another method would be to restore the files (hopefully there aren't too
many) and note the tapes involved, do a "query contents" on the tapes,
and note the other nodes involved (again, hopefully there aren't too
many). Then you'd know if it was a good idea to "delete" the volumes
with "discard=y" and put the tapes to scratch, and then backup again the
nodes that had data on the deleted volumes (after ensuring that the
undesirable files had been deleted from the problem node).
A little complicated, but so is getting backups to expire; and the
undesired backups will be overwritten a lot sooner if you don't have to
wait for "reclaim" to kick in.
