Re: ADSM, PPP, and long distances

I have been doing a lot of testing over dial connections using SLIP to
connect to the dial-in TCP/IP campus network. I get a backup speed of
about 10 MB/hr after compression with a 28.8 modem. Ironically, after
a major upgrade to our TCP/IP connection to the mainframe server that
fixed our TCP/IP problems for LAN/WAN backups I started getting more
frequent TCP/IP connection failure problems with the dial-in backups
but have not had the time to determine why. erl

Does anyone have any advice about how to set up an ADSM client (eg, Win95)
to work reliably over long, slow TCP/IP connections?
I'm trying to back up a PC to a remote ADSM server through a 28.8 Kbps PPP
connection to an ISP not local to the ADSM server. ADSM services seem very
susceptible to network delays and conjestion; when the going gets rough, we
eventually start seeing "TCP Connection Failure" error pop-up boxes while
doing backups.
Are there settings in the dsm.opt file that will make ADSM more tolerant of
network delays? Is anyone else supporting remote users through
slower-than-LAN connections?
Thanks,
Nick
