We use SQL-BackTrack to back up Oracle databases under AIX. The
documentation for the ADSM OBSI module claims that it is possible
to assign a management class specifically for data from SQL-BackTrack,
but I have not been able to get this to work.

We have SQL-BackTrack set up to keep database backups for two weeks.
The backup copy group in the default management class for clients
with Oracle databases calls for retaining the last version of a
deleted file for 14 days. Several weeks ago I added the following
to the include/exclude file on one of these clients:

include /o001:*/.../* backtrack

The backup copy group in the 'backtrack' management class calls for
retaining the last version of a deleted file for 0 days. ADSM
'query filespace' and 'query occupancy' commands show that all of
the file spaces created by SQL-BackTrack have names that start with
'/o001:'. I recently created a script that finds out what volumes
contain files for a given client nodes, lists the contents of those
volumes, selects the SQL-BackTrack files, extracts the date stamps
embedded in the file names, and plots the distribution of dates.
The results show 45 or 46 files on each of the last 28 days. This
would seem to indicate that the management class assignment is not
working, and that ADSM is still retaining SQL-BackTrack files for
two weeks after SQL-BackTrack tells ADSM that the files have been
deleted from the client system.

I have verified that the ADSM scheduler process on the client has
been stopped and restarted since the include/exclude file was
updated. I have rechecked the symbolic links that are supposed to
direct SQL-BackTrack to the dsm.sys file, the inclexcl statement
in dsm.sys, and the copy group definition on the ADSM server. I
can't find anything wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions for
tracking down the source of the problem?
