Environment: AIX 4.1.4 on a 590; ADSM Server 2.1.0.11; ADSM Client 2.0.6;
stk 4490 36trk drives with the datapath of blkmux.

I am attempting to set up a trial system but ADSM will not accept my drive
definition.  The definition and error is:

adsm> define library 36trk libtype=manual
ANR8400I Library 36TRK defined.

adsm> define drive 36trk stk.0.0.10.0 device=/dev/rmt1
ANR8420E DEFINE DRIVE: An I/O error occurred while accessing drive
STK.0.0.10.0.
ANS5102I Return code 3.

What do I have wrong?

I can read and write tapes on the drives using mtdiag.
