DOES YOUR ORACLE DATABASE COME DOWN WHEN YOU WANT TO BACK UP?
DOES YOUR ORACLE DATABASE COME DOWN WHEN YOU WANT TO BACK UP?
It doesn't have to. And with today's reliance on distributed
client/server computing, it's often critical that your Relational
Database Management System (RDBMS) NEVER come down. That's where IBM's
ADSTAR (TM) Distributed Storage Manager (ADSM) comes in. This
award-winning client/server software helps you automate storage
management functions WITHOUT bringing your database down. ADSM lets you
choose from a variety of online backup techniques for Oracle on AIX,
Sun, HP, NT, Digital UNIX, Sequent, Sinix, and other platforms.
Integrating seamlessly with your database and system backup utilities,
ADSM provides you the full range of backup and storage management
functions you need in your distributed environment.
But backing up is not important unless you can RECOVER easily and quickly
With ADSM, you can. You see, ADSM has its own RDBMS - its brain. It
allows ADSM not only to track all aspects of your backed up data, but
also the media on which it resides. So when small disasters strike (for
example, inadvertent user deletions), ADSM can rapidly recover your data,
often straight from disk. And when large disasters hit (for example,
tornado), you won't have to wonder which offsite tapes have your
database on it - ADSM knows. Couple this with ADSM's exclusive Disaster
Recovery Manager (DRM) option providing you with a "road map" for your
disaster recovery, and you really ARE prepared for anything!
LOTS OF BACKUP CHOICES FOR ORACLE
For Oracle databases, ADSM gives you several online backup alternatives.
By using ADSMConnect Agent for Oracle, for example, ADSM and Oracle's
Enterprise Backup Utility (EBU) are integrated, allowing Oracle backup
output to be sent directly to ADSM servers where it can be effectively
managed. DataTools' SQL-BackTrack product uses the ADSM API to store
database objects directly within the the ADSM server. This gives you
all the powerful functionality you need: true incremental backup,
object-level backup and recovery, data compression, encryption. And
ADSM, through either EBU or SQL-BackTrack, also supports the Oracle
Parallel Server!
