IBM announces ADSM for Sun Solaris V2.6 and ADSM for HP-UX V2.6
Today IBM extends its leadership position in storage management by
announcing ADSTAR(TM) Distributed Storage Manager for Sun Solaris V2.6
and ADSTAR(TM) Distributed Storage Manager for Hewlett-Packard HP-UX
V2.6, new versions of IBM's award winning ADSM for Sun Solaris and ADSM
for Hewlett-Packard HP-UX.. ADSM is a client/server software product
that archives, automates data backup and disaster recovery planning,
and manages overall storage functions for a wide variety of workstations
and LAN servers. For companies with distributed data across multiple
platforms, who want a single, comprehensive storage management solution
for managing and protecting distributed data, this offering provides a
single, reliable and consistent enterprise-wide solution, supporting
all major computing platforms, that will scale non-disruptively with the
business needs of your customers, unlike the current, common practice
of using multiple, platform-specific, user-dependent solutions. General
availability of ADSM for Sun Solaris V2.6 and ADSM for Hewlett-Packard
HP-UX V2.6 will be March 28, 1997.
Key Prerequisites:
-ADSM for Sun Solaris V2.6 requires a Sun-4 workstation, a SPARCstation,
or compatible workstation running Sun Solaris 2.5.1.
or compatible workstation running Sun Solaris 2.5.1.
-ADSM for Hewlett-Packard HP-UX V2.6 requires a Hewlett-Packard HP9000
series 800 with HP-UX 10.10 or 10.20.
series 800 with HP-UX 10.10 or 10.20.
Today's announcements extend the benefits your customer receives from
their ADSM investment with NEW features and functions for:
ADSM for Sun Solaris V2.6
1.Support for Disaster Recovery Manager(DRM), an optional feature that
provides a centrally-managed, automated generation of a server
disaster recovery plan, as well as media management for off-site
recovery.
2.Support for Hierarchical Storage Management(HSM), an optional
feature that provides automated migrate and recall support for
local file systems residing on AIX or Solaris 2.5 clients.(This HSM
function is also referred to as the Space Management feature).
3.Support for Open Systems Environment, an optional feature that
provides backup and restore of AFS and Distributed File Service(DFS)
systems, via the AIX 4.1.4 client.
4.Support for Automatic Cartridge System Library Server(ACSLS) which
enables the ADSM for Solaris server to have direct connectivity to
the StorageTek(STK) family of silos.*(Availability in June, 1997)*
5.Support for Shared Memory Protocol, a new communications method that
provides more efficient communications between the client and the
server when both are on the same machine(node). To use this new
protocol, TCP/IP must be installed.
6.An enhancement for API clients, known as Partial Object Retrieve
(POR), gives the application the ability to batch like objects
together into a larger, super-object and selectively retrieve all
or part of the super-object.
7.The Single Server Edition of ADSM for Sun Solaris V2.6 is
an entry level product that provides storage management functions
on a single server for that server's files.
8.The Network Edition of ADSM for Sun Solaris V2.6 expands the storage
management functions to the network environment for a variety of
workstations and LAN file servers.Customers may upgrade from the
Single Server Edition at initial order, or upgrade at a later date.
ADSM for Hewlett-Packard HP-UX V2.6
1.Support for Disaster Recovery Manager(DRM), an optional feature that
provides a centrally-managed, automated generation of a server
disaster recovery plan, as well as media management for off-site
recovery.
