Item Subject: mount question
First I would go perform a physical inspection of the library & drives
'cause I've seen situations where a Q MOUNT doesn't show all the
     actual mounts
If there are drives with no tapes you can open the library, physically
insert a tape, make available the definition for the drive in AIX &
see if you can read the tape.
(ya know how there will be :
     rmt0 Available 00-08-00-4,0 5.0 GB 8mm Tape Drive
rmt1 Available 00-01-01-0,0 IBM 3590 Tape Drive and Medium Changer
rmt2 Available 00-02-01-0,0 IBM 3590 Tape Drive and Medium Changer
rmt3 Defined 00-01-01-0,0 Other SCSI Tape Drive
rmt4 Defined 00-02-01-0,0 Other SCSI Tape Drive
rmt5 Available 00-03-01-0,0 IBM 3590 Tape Drive and Medium Changer
rmt6 Available 00-04-01-0,0 IBM 3590 Tape Drive and Medium Changer
rmt8 Defined 00-03-01-0,0 Other SCSI Tape Drive
rmt9 Defined 00-04-01-0,0 Other SCSI Tape Drive
lmcp2 Available LAN/TTY Library Management Control Point
     )
     If all seems OK try:
     mtlib -l /dev/lmcp2 -m -f /dev/rmt5 -V somevolser
the -m is for mount, use -d for dismount
NOW if this cmd just returns back a prompt then it mounted the tape,
if it gives you an error against the library (and I can't remember the
specific text but it will be against the library cntl pt) IT COULD BE
that the internal serial number of the drive glitched... say you had a
card pack installed in a drive but due to the extream pain in the rear
that setting the serial number is it didn't get entered correctly (and
it is a MAJOR PAIN... added security I guess) You can still use the
drive from AIX, the field engineer gets an OK when performing service
check routines from the ATL console BUT somewhere deep in the license
code somewhere it says "oh, you must be trying to use a stolen tape
drive" AND IT WILL NOT LET YOU ACCESS THE DRIVE VIA THE ATL ! period,
     end of communications !
The one server I've seen this on (I'm embarrased to say) I never
noticed not using the one drive for @ 4 months. We hadn't loaded that
server due to waiting on additional communication lines. Had another
server in extream need of another drive. We did a tape drive shuffle
and OH MY GOD errors start appearing. I can't say how, when, where, or
why the SR# got out of whack but 1 out of 26 drives isn't bad and IBM
was already on site and it was corrected within our initial outage
window for the other activity so I can't complain... but it was odd...
IBM telling me ALL IS OK and I'm telling them I DON'T THINK SO
I should have bet lunch or something on it ;-)
OH make sure you have the latest, greatest library code, drive
     microcode and the such...
     later
         Dwight

     Hi all,

Query mount gives 2 volumes in use.
Query proc gives 2 procs, both Space Reclamation, first is busy,
second is Waiting for multiple mount points in device class,
The mountlimit is 4 (in devclass).
     We have 4 drives.

Why is the second proc waiting?

If I set the mountlimit to 5 or 6, I get the following errors:

ANR8447E No drives are currently available in library
ANR1401W Mount request denied for volume 000638 - mount failed
ANR1081W Space reclamation terminated for volume 000638 -
         storage media inaccessible.

Any suggestion?
