We run ADSM on AIX, but as far as I know the policy definitions work the
same on all platforms.

ADSM keeps one copy of each file forever, as long as the FILE exists on
the client.

YOU control what ADSM does with the last backup when a user deletes the
file from the client machine's file system.

Whn you create the management class and backup copy group definition,
one of the parameters you set is "length of time (in days) to retain
only backup version".  If you set tha number to 30, ADSM will delete the
last backup of the file 30 days after it detects the file is gone from
the client disk.
