To 2:
We have IBM-7331-205 (1 Drive, AIX325). ADSM can't regognize it, we
musst manualy instal
it (ADSM has a lack at this point).
There is a problem betwen ADSM's mtx and AIX's rmtx drivers, if you want
to use the drive
with other software that change the settings of the tape. In that case
you musst manualy
disable the mtx device, so other software (mksysb for example) can work.
This can be a
problem if ADSM's disseaster recovery will be based on mksysb.
But this is a general problem that ADSM uses the own device-drivers
and not
  the drivers of the OS.

We have no more problems with the drive as with other tapes
-the mounts are a bit too slow.
To 3:
To 3:
Theoreticaly the medium stress is: on a linear tape < 4mm tape < 8mm
tape,
but a good 8mm tecnology cann be more secure than a bad linear-tecnology
implementation
and -for example- a slow 8mm tape is more secure than a fast 8mm tape.

To 4:
2 drives is better than 1, a) the speed,
                             b) wenn you will to move data from the
medium
  bad medium, colocation, ...
This will be significant if you can,t have disk space to store the
data.
   - a compressed 8505XL tape can have 14 GB, a 4700T 40 GB
