Customer wants to install a high availability ADSM server using HACMP.
The HACMP cluster consists of two RS/6000 with "shared" disks. When
the primary machine fails the secondary machine makes the disks
available and starts the identical ADSM server from the "shared"
disks (the server database and recovery log are the same used by the
primary ADSM server).
A possible problem could be the tape drives.
The primary machine has a escon
connection to a 3490 4-drive tape unit. The secondary machine has only a
parallel channel emulator card that connects it to the same 3490 unit.
If we define the different tape attachments in both
machines as /dev/rmt1 , could the ADSM server work with the drives
from both machines (over escon in normal case, over parallel channel
when started from secondary machine) ?
Perhaps this depends on how drive definitions are stored in the ADSM
database. Is there any other device specific information for tape
drives stored in the database beside the name of the device special
file (/dev/rmtx) ?

If it is not possible to work with this configuration, how can
the problem of accessing tapes be handled in a HACMP installation ?

Any experiences are welcome
