I don't think that this will help us outside the US.
If its IBM intend to use resources efficiently - which is a good idea -,
and they will have us looking for new software maintenance levels instead
of calling the support centers - and often there the answer would be "get
the new v2r1mX code" - then claiming that there is ONE supported annonymous
FTP server and three mirrors maintained by non-IBM volunteers is completely
inadequate.
After upgrading PCTCP, our WIN 16-bit ADSM v2r1m3/4 client didn't work
anymore. I assumed that this could be fixed using the v2r1m5 client, which
I now know is true, but in the areas where I looked in, the WIN 16-bit and
32-bit clients, the german mirror at Karlsruhe had EMPTY directories for
about three weeks !!!
I tried the PSU mirror as well, and when I was able to connect the official
mirror somewhere in the 8.00 - 11.00 GMT timeframe, the best I could achieve
was to download 300K of the first IPnnnn.3dx file !!!
I would suggest, that IBM sets up supported mirrors at some of their national
subsidaries, or at least establish mechanisms which would enable the volunteer
mirrors to keep in sync in a reasonable timeframe.
