Have you looked at the throughput. We just we looking at this issue
as well.  Quantums 4000 1.5 Mb/sec max vs 9mb max. In practice they
are seeing between 3 and 4 mb/sec on the 3590's.

We have a VAX that uses  the DLT technology and haven't had good
results. Extreme head and tape wear.
