Joseph, here is what the ADSM api developer suggests you do:

 "This customer should check the README.API file.
It says how to set up a symbolic link to the lib file.
For Sun/Solaris there are two files - each with a certain suffix."

I'll look at updating the redbook to be more clear as well.
