Yes there is. You can define a second management class in the policy domain
in question, and set it up with the different characteristics that you require
(such as 5 copies of the data, different retention periods etc.). Once you
have defined this and activated it, you go into the include/exclude list, and
add the name of the specific class that you want to apply to files of that
type. This management class will replace the original - so it should me a
complete statement of what the characteristics are. - retention, copies, only
copy etc.

As an example, I set up a class with copies set to 5, and call it EXTRA. IN
the DSM.OPT, I add the following statement:

    INCLUDE c:\...\*.tex EXTRA

This will apply the the EXTRA management class to all files on the C drive
with the file type of TEX.

Obviously, this is a PC based example - the process is similar in the Unix
world, although the Include/exclude list is not kept in the DSM.OPT, as has
been documented here recently.

Hope this helps. Since it goes on a customer machine, it is not a foolproof
solution - once you establish it and let it be known, people may use it for
purposes other than what you intended.

Dear ADSM managers,

A user corrupted his data, so he wishes that ADSM would have several
older copies despite our site's policy of only 1 copy on backup (for
reasons of space).

Question: Is there a way to specify that certain file types (e.g.,
those with an extension of .tex), or only certain file sizes (e.g.,
below 100 kBytes) can be retained in more copies than the default
number of copies ?

Thank you,
Ole
