   IBM STORAGE SYSTEMS DIVISION
   Storage Software Product Group

   Feature/News Opportunity:

IBM IS BROADENING ITS ENTERPRISE-WIDE REACH TO NETWORK CENTERED
COMPUTING ENVIRONMENTS BY PROVIDING ADDITIONAL BACKUP, DISASTER
RECOVERY AND ARCHIVING FUNCTIONS FOR THE FOUR DATABASES THAT OWN 3/4
OF THE WORLD'S DATABASE MARKET -- ORACLE, INFORMIX, SYBASE AND DB2.
IBM IS ANNOUNCING ENHANCED SUPPORT FOR ORACLE AND INFORMIX (See
   attached production description.)

According to Contingency Planning Research, Inc. (1/96), computer
downtime after 24 hours can cost from $12,000 to $7.5 million PER HOUR.

Now consider that 9 out of 10 UNIX administrators don't have a
disaster recovery plan in place, and 76% use limited backup tools that
come with their system software -- rarely test a restoration of lost
data -- and typically store their backups 5 feet away from the source.
It soon becomes obvious that many companies are placing their critical
distributed data -- and their future -- in an extremely vulnerable
position. With the increased data burden on network databases, IS
administrators must have reliable, flexible backup and recovery
systems that reach across their entire enterprise for their business
   protection.

Oracle, Informix, Sybase and DB2 are the most popular databases with
UNIX administrators. ADSM already supports the most platforms in the
industry, has the greatest scalability and is the most highly
automated storage management solution for UNIX administrators.

Please consider talking to an IBM specialist about the ways ADSM is
reaching across the network-centered community to protect data, speed
data transfer and save disk storage space -- and perhaps, save the
   company itself.

   NEW PRODUCT INFORMATION

Today, IBM is announcing the Oracle Backup Agent as an interface
between the Oracle Enterprise Backup Utility and ADSM for the AIX
client platform. The Oracle Backup Agent will allow ADSM to back up
Oracle 7 databases and Oracle Parallel databases seamlessly using
Oracle's Enterprise Backup Utility (EBU). A no-charge copy of the
agent may be obtained for evaluation or testing until the priced
Oracle backup agent becomes available in 4Q '96.

IBM is also announcing support for INFORMIX(R)-OnLine Dynamic Server's
enhanced backup and restore utility. This X/OPEN BSA-compliant
utility will allow customers to back up Informix databases directly to
ADSM for the AIX and Solaris platforms. The ADSM X/OPEN API client
will be available on Aug. 31, concurrent with the release of
INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server 7.2.1 by Informix. ADSM support for
INFORMIX-Extended Parallel Server 8.1 is also planned.

   ADSM BENEFITS

   * ADSM increases productivity and the business "bottom line" by
providing quick access to critical data stored across the network.

   * ADSM saves time and labor costs by automating storage management
functions, such as policy administration and central scheduling.

   * ADSM minimizes the amount of data to be stored by moving less
critical data to less expensive media (e.g. hard drive to tape), and
   by consolidating storage media.

   * ADSM's "intelligent architecture" reduces the amount of data moving
over a network, a significant factor when LAN data transfer rates are
   increasing 50% to 100% yearly.

   * ADSM periodically saves only new data. This incremental, online
storage reduces system downtime, and prevent unnecessary, expensive
storage of duplicate data. Less data to store less often.

   * ADSM business recovery features protect the entire storage
management environment against media loss and disaster by providing
the ability to backup the ADSM database and client data for enhanced
availability and recovery to a secondary site, if needed.

   * ADSM is one of IBM's most open products, and is highly acclaimed for
its ability to support mixed-computing environments. ADSM scales to
any business size, and brings to the networked environment the
sophistication and strengths derived from IBM Storage Systems
Division's 20 years in the storage software management arena.
