Yes, what you say is true about the Mac files structure, but it would be a great
feature to allow a remote administrator to restores file from the archive 
library to
a shared directory on the server. You can do this now if the remote node is the 
same
system type as the server, but if it could be any system that would be great.

FYI: Files stored on a LAN Server for Macintosh (LSM) system have the resource 
fork,
type and creator codes, stored in the extended attributes.

It is standard practice here to have several shared directories for Mac files. 
These
directories are archived by ADSM and then deleted. These files can be restored 
to
any shared directory and still have all the things to make the file fully 
functional
on the MAC.

I agree that this wouldn't work if you restored directly to the client without 
LSM
feeding the Mac the codes and stuff.

Is it possible to create a new option for option files that would turn on or 
off the
ability to resotre files to different type systems? That way the end-user or
administrator can make the decision.
