Our experience with the automounter (e.g. on DEC) is that it sometimes
works but often the client will hang indefinitely with ans4266e. ADSM can
thus only be used where the reliability of the backup does not matter at
all -- which is not the case for us or for our customers.
Given the criticality of the problem, we have written a PMR (41456) but,
alas, it ended as expected:
IC08664 was closed "sug". If this is a big problem for the customer I
recommend you enter a suggestion into the "hone" database for future ADSM
design changes. Note in that entry the strong need the customer has to
change this.
In other words, instead of fixing the problem, the customer is once more
sent on the stony way through IBM's institutions with absolutely zero
chance. As I have often heard with other customers, they tend to spare
the vain effort of intervening again and again. The PMR can be closed;
problem "solved"; service performance excellent; congratulations.

PS. I certainly would not have written in this rather bitter tone, had
that not been the consistent experience in the last years.
