Since you register client nodes into your server, you should be able
to query on last access by a client. If it exceeds a certain time,
lock the account. If they complain, re-open it. If not, delete it after
a certain grace period.

Daily can be a killer. Most people really only need the occasional
weekly or bi-weekly backup, with the exception of a small subset of
active files. Try working with users so that they have data that needs
daily backup in a certain directory structure. Using INCLUDE/EXCLUDE
and managment classes, you could do series of daily, weekly and
occasional backups

Not to the desktop, but out to departmental servers (typically UNIX,
Netware, and OS/2). make certain you have the campus network
infrastructure to handle this. If you can have FDDI speeds or better
up to the remote system's segment, you should be okay. And the best
way to optimize that network usage during scheduled backups is to
analyze the data on the client, and reduce the number of incremental
backups taken of files that change on a regular basis, but for trivial
reasons. And also explore the 3rd party database backup products. They
should reduce the volume of data moved in incremental database backups.
