You might try checking the tcpip packet size settings on both client
systems.

We have a token-ring network but ran into a simular problem when our
Network staff made a change to our token-ring switch and imposed a
packet size restriction of 2k; our Win95 clients had a default setting
of 4K. Adjusting the clients packet size fixed the problem.
