We are very much interested in ADSM for Solaris, but I have a few
questions I hope someone can answer. I have contacted ADSM pre-sales
technical support, but I haven't gotten a phone call back yet.
Anyway, here goes:
Will ADSM (server) run under Solaris 2.5 on a SPARCserver 1000E?
Can ADSM support the SPARCstorage Library Model 8/140?
(This is an automated tape storage device that holds a 10 tape
magazine and up to 2 8mm tape drives.)
Can ADSM backup/restore data from NFS mounted drives from other
machines? This would negate the requirement for having a client for
each workstation on my Sun network.
Can ADSM handle automatic movement of tapes offsite? I may be trying
to apply my mainframe mind-set here where I shouldn't. On the host I
can
specify tape retention in such a way that the operators run a daily
report
which tells them which tapes to gather (by volser) to place in a case
to
be sent offsite. They can also produce a report which will tell them
which
tapes are to be returned from offsite, as well as reports which list
all of the scratch
tapes, etc.
Can ADSM prevent an accidental overwrite of a tape that is not in
'scratch'
status? For example, if an operator inserts a tape into the drive that
is not a
'scratch' tape, will ADSM inform the operator of this and request a new
mount?
I'm sure I will think of something else I should have asked, but this
will get me started.
Thanks in advance....
