We are currently running exactly this configuration under AIX 3.2.5 and
ADSM version 2. It works. However, the support of the 370 channel adapter
is discontinued with AIX 4.1. Therefore we will have to either:

1) wait for new code to support 370 channel adapters even under AIX 4.

2) use SCSI technology on the STK drives

3) use a specialised product from IBM Dallas

4) postpone the upgrade to AIX 4.

Solution 1 would be cheapest, but leaves us with newly developed code on a
technological island. Solution 3 deviates from mainstream ADSM and is not
supported outside the US. Currently, we are investigating how expensive
solution 2 would be: it has the advantage that a subsequent switch to
faster tape technology (Timberline, Redwood) is facilitated. Until then,
we use solution 4.

Hope this helps. Best regards,

Helmut Richter
