We are currently using 8-mm tape as an archival medium with the ADSM/2
server for OS/2, DOS/Win 3.x, and Mac clients. Our communication protocol
is TCP/IP. Currently we are archiving 20 GB/year, but have plans to
triple this in the next six months. We would like to permanently archive
this data, but tapes start losing data after about two years on the
shelf. If we could migrate data from tape to CD this would be ideal.

We considered using CD-R as our main backup storage system, but problems
with maintaining a consistent data stream to the drive discouraged us.
This is especially a problem over a LAN. A little too "bleeding edge" at
the time we were planning our current LAN solution. I have heard that
these problems are becoming less of an issue as software and hardware
improves.
