INFORMATIONAL FLASH ON ADSM VERSION 2

The ADSM HSM client is not currently supported on AIX 4.1.
If you attempt to install the HSM client on AIX 4.1, the
install will destroy the /etc/vfs file. This file describes
the known virtual file system implementations. When this
file is gone, various file system errors will manifest themselves.

This problem is magnified by the fact that when asked which ADSM
version 2 clients to install on AIX, the ADSM manual discusses
selecting ALL. Selecting ALL includes installing the HSM client,
even if you're on AIX 4.1! This problem and the documentation
will be fixed in the very near future but we wanted you to be
aware of the situation.

WORKAROUNDS

When installing the ADSM Version 2 AIX clients on AIX 4.1, do NOT
select to install the HSM client (adsm.spmgmt.obj). That is,
do not select ALL or make sure the HSM client is deselected
before continuing.

If you have already hit this problem and have lost your /etc/vfs
file, do not fear. It is easily recreated. You can either
recreate it manually with a text editor, or you can copy one from
another AIX system (the files are usually common across AIX
systems).

Sorry for this inconvenience.
