Even though we have a tape robot to do our tape mounts, it is clear that
we would see a considerable speed-up of functions that mount many input
tapes (e.g., EXPORT, RESTORE) if there were an option to do anticipatory
tape mounts -- that is, if when tape1 starts being read, the mount for
tape2 were initiated; then when tape2 starts being read, the mount for
tape3 were initiated; etc.
