Well, I received an AIX 3.2.5 update tape from IBM. You know, the tape
that is to fix ALL your problems.

Now, having been burned before I went ahead and made a BOS Boot tape of my
machine before I installed the updates. This machine was also my ADSM
server. I installed the updates, rebooted the box and POW!, the box
wouldn't come up. Kept crashing and crashing. It was so unstable that we
had to restore the BOS Boot tape.

Well, to my surprise, I find out that mksysb does not back up logical
volumes that are NOT mounted. So, all my ADSM databases and logical
volumes used to store backups & archives did not get backed up and
restored. Luckly, I was only TESTING ADSM, if this was a live server I
would have been dead in the water.

Now, to my question. How do I backup ADSM? How do you backup logical
volumes that are NOT mounted?

Any help would be appreciated. Our disaster recovery plan is now a disaster!
