On macs, you can use Preferences file entries to direct the log files to
the Trash.  Emptying the Trash takes care of the logs.  This isn't
automatic, of course, and the interval is sporadic rather than the
one week's worth of data you suggest, but it does keep your disk from
filling up unnoticed.
