Whoa... symbolic links are indeed restored (although, as detailed in your
mailfile, not all attributes are restored).

ADSM handles symbolic links differently between restore and retrieve. For
restore, they symbolic link is restored. For retrieve, the contents of the
target file is retrieved. This is documented in the manual. I don't know
if I agree with the way retrieve works, but I think it's probably too late
to change it now. Probably too many sites have gotten used to the way it
works now.

Princeton's analysis of ADSM on Unix systems was very good, and I would
encourage IBM to address the issues that they raised, especially in regards
to backing up files underneath a mount point, backing up the mount point
itself, backing up special files, and restoring all dates/times for files
and directories.

We recently used ADSM to restore a volume in the root volume group on an
AIX system, and it was not straightforward. I would like to see some
documentation on a good way to do this. I am particularly concerned with
ODM-related files.
