No, there is no way.
But you can achieve this by ADSM|Backup/Restore by file specification,
and use * for file spec, and enable search subdirectory.

Support of subdir in Windows GUI B/A client was first available in
the August PTF.

I agree with you, this is rather misleading.  It used to make more
sense (but still misleading )-:) before we support subdir in GUI.
