ADSM assigns nodes (clients or users) to a Policy Domain. Within
a policy domain there is an active policy set which contains all
of the management classes that define how data from a user is to
be managed. A policy set can contain many management classes, and
ADSM give the administrator the ability to define which of these
management classes should be the default MC used should none be
specified.

Every file backed up by ADSM has a mgmt. class associated with it.
The file/MC relation (binding) is determined at the client machine
via the ADSM include/exclude list processing. Within this list
are include statements, and the last parameter on the include
statement is the specific MC that is to be bound to the file. If no
MC is specified then the default MC for that policy domain will be
used.

This may seem complex, but once you get the hang of it you can do
all sorts of things to manage your backup or archive files to best
meet your needs.
