I will attempt to inject my 2 cents here and answer the questions that
I might have answers for....

Don't know, however you should be aware that ADSM's tape pool is a closed
system, defined by the ADSM server and that the virtual contents of the
tape does reduce as files expire. Any tape is not a standalone entity.

I believe it uses the modify date.

No, I believe that you can specify a new target.

I think you are asking about a disaster scenario? If so, a full ADSM
server is required.

We have backed up files well in excess of 256 byte pathnames without
problems. I don't know what the physical limit is.

Yes, at least it is for unix. I don't know about DOS and OS/2. On
my DOS restores, I have had no problems.

You cannot unless you bring up parallel servers which is extremely wasteful.
I suggest that you run parallel backups (we do) on a quarterly or monthly
basis. ADSM is very good at trivial restores (less than a few thousand
objects and less than a few hundred megabytes). We have filesystems in
excess of 2GB with over one million objects and it is perhaps more practical
to do a full restore (i.e. HDA failure) from a quarterly or monthly and then
use ADSM to clean it up.
