Not aware of any limitations regarding the size of disk pools. Currently I have seen customer that has a 4Tb disk pool defined on a EMC. Spread the volumes amoung controllers.

This is good idea but I think there are other aspects to take into account: in case of RAID array failure you should have a copy pool to restore. You can make file copypool but you cannot send disks
