- If the tapes are already in the library and the library inventory is aware of these tapes (slot location), simply issue a CHECKIN LIBV SEARCH=YES command. The tapes will be checked in in search mode

- Depends sometimes on your library, but have you tried using the SEARCH=YES option on your CHECKIN? Depending on your situation, that can work for SCSI libraries.
