... Many (most?) gcc installations on Solaris use the standard Sun provided assembler and linker. Is there a specific reason you are not using the Sun linker? Perhaps move /usr/ccs/bin in your path b

... Does amanda know about that. It may have recorded the location of cc, ld, ... when you did your configure. Did you reconfigure after the PATH change? BTW, before rerunning ./configure, get rid of
