When we do a Q LIBVOL we list all of our tapes. Under STATUS, some are SCRATCH, and others are PRIVATE. The scratch ones have nothing under the "Last Use" column, the private ones typically say "Data

Jordan, For the tapes in question: Try checking them out, and then checking it back in as a scratch. We saw tapes like this that were marked as private, but did not have a use of Data or DBbackup and

We see this occasionally, usually after someone brings down the server without seeeing if any tapes are in use. If "q con" or "move data" show nothing, try "del vol". If that doesn't work, try "check

If you just want them to be scratch, do a "UPD LIBV LIBNAME VOLSER STAT=SCRATCH" If you had a private tape as a database backup, this would happen when the database backup is expired. Nick Cassimatis

I believe if you check out a tape, that is in a stgpool, and then check it back in, the Status Last Use becomes blank.

This is true, any volume that is checked out and checked back in again gets the 'blank' status. This goes for all private volumes i.e. volumes previously having the status Data or DbBackup. regards W

Private Status value reported in 'Query LIBVolume'. A tape just checked in a Private will have a null Last Use because there was no last use. A tape will be forced to Private status when there is an

As an additional note, I have found that when I have checked tapes back in and they have a status of blank, that they come up as 'Unavailable' if you view them through the browser admin, I have then
