I would like to add to that if I could? I am running the ADSM NT client on NT 4.0 SP5 machines, the client is Ver 3, Rel 1, Level 0.6 I understand that these exclusions have to be coded in the DSM.OP

That's what you need to do. Make sure you stop and restart dsmc after changing the options file. This includes the scheduler daemon you may have started. If you use exclude /usr/.../* then the files

If you are running your backups from the scheduler service, you need to stop and restart the scheduler service after making changes to the dsm.opt file before they will take effect.
