[...] Thats not, IMO anyway, a very good backup scheme. The data may well grow beyond its present 45GB if its got 200GB to grow into. I personally would setup the virtual tapes by dividing that 700GB

This is what I do: I have a virtual tape device and I use the fact that the "tapes" are directories and have no fixed size. I have a 400GB disk which is divided into 20 tapes, each with a tapesize of
