1) Do the "drives" work? Can you stream data to them faster than that rate by something simple (like 'dd')? 2) Does RMAN work? Can you change the script to backup to a local file. Since it's only 50G

Well, that's annoying. It doesn't give any insight into where the slowdown is occurring. If it's not the tapes and it's not RMAN, it must be some interaction between them or something in the interfac
