Are you sure RMAN stores the Media ID? It's been a while since I have looked at this, but I thought it just kept the backup_id for each stream and what data was in it. Then it was up to NetBackup to

That's part of the problem. I'm not allowed near the RMAN process in any format. The DBA's claim it stores the media id. This is why I'm looking for some docs that explain the setup and the whatnots.
